I — NOMEN PARS OPERIS EST.
The name is part of the work.
The image and the name exist as one. The name is not a caption and not an explanation. It is part of the work.
I — NOMEN PARS OPERIS EST.
The name is part of the work.
The image and the name exist as one. The name is not a caption and not an explanation. It is part of the work.
II — NOMEN NON EXPLICAT, SED APERIT.
The name does not explain — it opens.
It should not retell the image. Its task is to let what has already been seen be seen differently.
III — IMAGO EADEM, SENSUS ALIUS.
The image is the same — the meaning is other.
Before the name is read there is one work. After it, another. The image has not changed. Its perception has.
IV — MINUS EST SPATIUM.
Less means more space.
The less that is said, the more is left to the viewer. Only what is necessary should remain in the work.
V — COTIDIANUM DIGNUM EST.
The everyday deserves attention.
The ordinary is no less important than the exceptional. A chance gesture, an object, a situation or an observation can become a work.
VI — ABSURDUM IAM ADEST.
The absurd is already here.
It does not have to be invented. Sometimes it is enough to notice what already exists.
VII — LOGICA MATERIA EST.
Logic is material.
It can be broken, turned over, joined anew, or carried to the point where another meaning appears.
VIII — RISUS GRAVITATEM NON TOLLIT.
Laughter does not cancel seriousness.
Humour does not make a work less serious. A work can raise a smile and leave a question at the same time.
IX — MOTUS SENSUM MUTET.
Movement must change the meaning.
Animation is not an ornament on a still image. If movement changes nothing in the work, it is not needed.
X — FORMA OPERI SERVIT.
Form serves the work.
Drawing, photography, sound, video, animation or HTML are ways for a work to exist. The technique follows the work, not the other way round.
XI — NON OMNIA DICENDA SUNT.
Not everything must be said.
A work does not need to be explained to the end. Room must be left for the viewer to read it in their own way.
XII — OPUS IN SPECTATORE PERGIT.
The work continues in the viewer.
The work ends with the artist and continues in the viewer. At the moment the viewer makes the connection themselves, the work begins to exist independently of its author.
